Does anyone else remember "rat alley"? It was downtown behind a hotel or resturant. I can't remember which or what street we turned off of, but we would drive into the alley, turn off the head lights and sit for a minute or so.Then we would turn on the headlights and rats the size of small cats would be scrambling all over the plac!

Did the same thing but it was waynesville dump. Cars circled the dump and when dusk hit the rats would come out to party while our boyfriends shot at them. Seemed fun back then but weird thinking about it now. That would have been in late 50s.

wabash73...What era are we talking about? I don't recall any alley being called "Rat Alley" but I do know a couple of alleys where they were pretty bad during different periods of time?

That era and that location it was probably the alley than ran between Ludlow and Main behind the old arcade markets. Actually it ran right through the arcade and sort of separated the enclosed part under the dome from the open breezeway part that you entered off of 3rd street. That portion off of Ludlow offered up food scraps from all of the arcades shops and deli's as well as the produce/scraps from the rear of the old Liberal market on 3rd. There was also a hotel on the southwest corner of 3rd and Ludlow, that's where your memory of the hotel probably comes into play.
