In the late 40's to early 50's my grandmother used to take me to a small restaurant across the street from the Carillon. At that time the street was just two-way. I remember it being rather dark on the inside because the windows were covered with some type of ivy. Walked up two or three stairs into a small building. As a child it didn't make much difference to me, but now, I hope someone remembers it being there...it was probably pretty old even in those days, a name would be great too.

Perhaps it was the Patterson cafeteria. It had knotty pine walls and very dark lighting.Great food.I had been there as late as the 70s and the building is still there.Your grandma had good taste.

That was another place we frequented and you are correct they had good service and food. Believe they offered what was called a pee wee plate for those twelve and under. My kids were humiliated after a certain age to have to order one but it was cheap! What was so attractive about it was it was nestled in many trees and the back side further up the hill was Neils Heritage House. May be a real estate office now. Dayton had dozens of wonderful restaurants and your hard pressed to find any still open. Neils did reopen over the years and assume its still there.

olds88 thanks for your info. As I remember, it wasn't a cafeteria, or at least I never went through a line, my grandma might have for me. It was located at the bottom of the hill, not as far up as the cememtary, which was on the right hand side, restaurant was on left side of street, as I remember it. It was maybe replaced by Patterson Cafeteria. Again, thanks.

thank you too luv my dayton for your info.

To my knowledge it was always known as the "Patterson Restaurant". I wasn't aware that it was ever a cafeteria.
