On Dorothy lane, where Papa John's is now, there used to be a drive in root beer stand in the early 1960s. I remember being in the backseat of my grandfather's Cadillac looking at the huge revolving mug of root beer on the roof as we drove onto the gravel parking lot.

The place your thinking about would of been the Frostop root beer stand. Their origins go back to a place out in Springfield where the chain began. They have a website today that you can look up with all their history. And you can buy their rootbeer today in plastic quart bottles. The Rural King stores sell it as well as some other places in The Dayton area. My family owned alot of the property in the Wilmington-Dorothy area and leased it out to them. I remember that big mug atop their drive-in as well. Good ole memory. But look up that website. It will bring back some memories for sure.

Wow, I never dreamed they would still be in business, even just as a distributor. Thanks for the heads up! I may have to go buy me a bottle, even though I remember the stand but not the root beer.
