I haven't been here in a while so I don't know if this has been addressed or not. But Meadowdale High School will be torn down soon and the new building which is apparently elsewhere on the property will open in the Fall. This Saturday, June 12th, the old building will be open for touring one last time from 12 - 4. There is no charge although someone tried really hard to enact one. I know many members of the Class of 1973 will be there and according to Facebook, many others. If you ever attended Meadowdale, here is your chance for one last blast from the past.

The new building is right next to the old one at the corner of Turner and Wolf. Its where the baseball field and the footall practice fields were located. I drove by there yesterday and it looks like it'll be a very nice school.

It was very sad. The building was in rough shape. I was happy to see some nice things that previous classes had done for it - like a beautiful tile Lion in the foyer. Heard they are going to try to move that. What really struck me driving around and seeing all the closed businesses and boarded up houses was the loss of an entire way of life. I didn't know then how lucky I was to grow up like I did. In looking in the gym, I saw that many of the high schools that were a part of the Dayton City schools are just gone. No Fairview ( our rival ) no Stivers, no Ross, no Patterson Co-op, no Colonol White. Yes, I realize that some must have combined to become Thurgood Marshall but still. It was just disconcerting.

No, I didn't see the newspaper as I live in Cincinnati now. I will have to ask a friend of mine who works there if I can get a copy somehow. Thanks for mentioning it. What did they do with Fairview's building? Where do the kids in that district go to school now? I went to summer school there once. Had a man with only part of his hand left as a teacher. Second career after his turn as a meat cutter was over. Nice guy, great teacher.

Becky73 - The Fairview high school building is now an elementary school...Ruskin, I think. A new school is being built on Hillcrest about halfway between Philadelphia and Catalpa. When finished, Fairview will be torn down.

I went to Fairview High School 1960-1964. Got married at the church at Hillcrest & Elesmere that is torn down. Fairview High School isn't torn down yet but will be. Gosh I had a fun time at that school. Married a girl that graduated from Meadowdale in 1966.

I went to Meadowdale elementary from '59 to '65. I wish I had known they were giving tours 4 years ago I would have went. I just now found out about this forum. Too late. Yes, as someone else said, the old neighborhood has gone to the dogs. I lived there when it was it all brand new. Sure was nice then. Great memories. I wish I could connect with people I went to school with.

My husbands cousin was killed in a car accident back in the early 70's and he was from Meadowdale. His name was Trent. Does anyone remember him?

Does anyone recall a Teacher/or Counselor at Meadowdale HS by the name of Miss or Mrs Hochwalt. She would probably have been there from the late 60's thru at least the late 70's/early 80's. I had her as a 7th/8th Grade teacher at Miamisburg in 1963/1964. I had heard years ago she was at Meadowdale. She was a great teacher.
