at the foot of E 3rd St hill on the NE corner of 3rd and Sperling. It had that art-deco front in blue and they sold Christmas trees (remember those?) in the lot adjacent to the stande. They sponsored a little league baseball team too. Any memories out there?

How well I remember Zesto! My family lived at E. Third and McGee and we walked up there later on a summer evening. More often than that, though (and both events were once a week), we walked only one block west, I think, to go to the Cone Cavern. They had "regular" ice cream and Zesto had soft serve. Delicious memories!

We too lived on 3rd between Monmouth and Jersey. We could walk to Zesto's and we were allowed to walk past the Maple Grove but we weren't allowed to walk past the Mermaid or the Band Box bars. Pretty rowdy bars even in the mid '60s

Yes, I remember that cafeteria. It had a picture window and I think the "Sisters Cafeteria" name was painted on it.

How about the Sinclair station and The Coffee Cup on 3rd and Jersey. Dr Pharrer who was the family doctor had his office across the street.

roge,
Yes, but I especially remember my mom speaking of it. By the time I remember, it had become a flea market store of sorts.
How about the firehouse on the first block of south Jersey? It was razed around '90(?)
Timmer's cleaners on the corner of Jersey and Springfield streets?
Burkhardt park in the good ol' days?
Flohre's market on Burkhardt and Jersey?

Hey Delcodude,do you remember there at Burkhardt center during the summer when the flat bed trailer truck would show up? I think they called it the show wagon, sort of a portable stage that visited all the parks with entertainment ,dancers and everything

I can't recall.
I remember when I went to Orville Wright (72-74) our wrestling coach (Mr. Scalzo) would have our gym class walk down and wrestle one another at Burkhardt Center. After three or four bouts apiece it was pretty hard to walk back up that hill.
Speaking of which, before the soapbox derby was moved back to Akron, the Nat'l Championship was run down Burkhardt hill. That went on until around '90

Riverdale Rat,
I only attended Holy Family for 2nd grade, which would've been '67-68. I went to St. Anthony for 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades. Then Orville Wright, 6th, 7th, and 8th.

Riverdale Rat,

My recollections intertwine between Holy Family and St. Anthony to the point that I can't recall them separately, with much accuracy. I've heard Winnie's mentioned here, and it sounds vaguely familiar, but....?

Hey VV,

Those are my old stomping grounds.(born in '60) We lived in the 3200 block of 3rd st while my Grandparents, Aunt, Uncle and cousin lived in the 2800 block. My other Aunt and Uncle and four cousins lived on McGee. So, we pretty much surrounded the Band Box. I used to shoot hoops a block away at Washington School, where I also went to 1st grade. I used to get my hair cut across the street at Harv's Barber Shop. I saw every Monogram, Revell, and AMT plastic car model that ever rested on the shelves at the Dime Store, Ridgway, and East End Drugstores. Hah.
I remember the Sinclair station at Jersey St., but I don't remember when your place "wasn't" the Band Box. The last time I was in the BB I was all of seven years old, sipping a Coke and wondering what the heck a blind robin and pickled herring were. I used to go out back and throw rocks against that red brick building on the alley while my folks popped a top inside. Good memories....the Band Box is a landmark that's stood the test of time for sure. Thanks
