Wayne vs. Stebbins, with gang fights taking place usually at the Brandt Pike Hasty-Tasty to settle up no matter who won (Back in the late 60s). The tradition of the "Peace Pipe" was instituted to try to put an end to things. Last I was in town, I didn't see it in our trophy case; and some lady I met who is a Stebbins grad is gloating that Stebbins has had that pipe for quite some time. If I ever get my novel published, I'll use my star power (once Wayne recovers the pipe) to get some Kiinikinick (American Indian smoking mixture and no, it doesn't contain pot) and smoke that thing. Someday...

I'm a 70 graduate of Stebbins and I had forgotten about the "Peace Pipe" and the Hasty Tasty that later became Kenny's Steaks and Cakes if I remember correctly.

Beavercreek & Xenia was not a rivalry. It was a bumpkin school (Xenia) thinking they could compete with a quality school (Beavercreek).

Just yanking your chain Max hee hee

I DO remember the rivalry between our 2 schools.

What is funny is I was adopted and went to Beavercreek and later in life I found my birth family (3 brothers and a sister) who all went to Xenia. My brothers and I all had hot cars and we remember each others cars but never had any idea we were brothers.

Ok tlturbo... I waited and waited behind the bleachers last night... You never showed up. Typical Beavercreek guy.. So I walked across the street on Allison Ave. and had a large supreme pizza at Cassanos. ( I wish)

I tried to get there but since I wasn't driving a pickup truck, they wouldn't let me into town.

Jeff, since the ceremony will probably be in public I would be the Native American smoking mixture I mentioned earlier. Cannabis is native to Asia, so it wouldn't be a component.

Tobacco might be, though. So I guess we would have to have the Medicine-Man General dancing about chanting the warnings.
Of course, first I have to get that book published and for it to be a big hit. So far I have written over 70,000 words, so it's half finished. Just so you know, the drag race on RipRap where the outgoing Detective Sergeant's older brother gets killed was started because one of the Northridge boys' cousin got his car taken by the dead kid.

The cousin went to Stebbins.....

Meadowdale vs. Fairview

Everytime Fairview hosted the Meadowdale Lions, they would play the song "The Lion Sleeps Tonight". That always got things going.

All the BHS v. XHS messages reminded me of Xenia's use of BHS for the last few months of the 73-74 school year after the tornado. They used the building in the evenings after we left for the day, may have used it on Saturdays as well.

The local media did human interest stories about how well the "bitter rivals" worked together, but the situation wasn't as peachy as they made it out to be. There was some unpublicized vandalism by the XHS kids, and rumors of shouting matches between teachers/staff of the two schools.

Ironically, at UC I became great friends with a guy who graduated from XHS in 74. In fact, he was the last person I spoke with as we left our UC graduation ceremony at Nippert Stadium in June 1979.
I've tried to locate the guy over the past few years, but no luck.

Joey M, Al Mauro was my brother-in-law. He was married to my wifes sister. He is still in pretty good shape for someone in his seventies.

Joey_M: You say you were at CHS 'till 1961. That's the year I graduated. You also mention the name, "Mauro". Was there also a "Maurer", either as a student or asst. football coach?

JJCofMAINE If I'm not mistaken I think there was a player but not sure. Brother Cosgrove was my senior homeroom teacher, who was yours. I also wanted to say how great my time at C.H.S. Made a difference in my adult life. Great memories!!!!!

Joey_m, since you went to St. James school and apparently lived not too far away, do you know anything at all about St. John the Baptist church?
